Theodore Anthony Nugent (born December 13, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and activist. Nugent initially gained fame as the lead guitarist of the Amboy Dukes, a band formed in 1963 that played psychedelic rock[1][2] and hard rock.[3][4] After playing with the Amboy Dukes, he embarked on a solo career. He was also a member of two separate supergroups, Damn Yankees (for which he served as both lead and rhythm guitarist, as well as providing backing vocals) and Damnocracy (where he once again served as the lead guitarist.)

As a solo artist, Nugent has produced several hit songs, including "Cat Scratch Fever", "Stranglehold", "Hey Baby", and "Wango Tango", among others, that have become classic rock staples.

Nugent is also noted for and has attracted controversy for his ultra-conservative political views, particularly his advocacy of hunting and gun ownership rights, as well as his stance against animal rights.[5][6] He is a board member of the National Rifle Association and a strong supporter of the Republican Party - particularly the Tea Party movement - and has advocated violence against advocates of gun control.[7][8][9]. He also known for his lifelong stance against drug and alcohol abuse.
